CENTRALIA – Evelyn Hugo, 77, of Centralia, passed away Friday, July 5, 2024, at her home.

Evelyn was born November 30, 1946, in Dahlgren, Illinois, the daughter of Paul Cross and Edna Inez (Mangrum) Cross. She married David Hugo, who survives.

In addition to her husband, David Hugo of Centralia, Evelyn is also survived by her two children, Nan (Kehrer) Burkeen and husband Jody of Eureka, Missouri, and Leon Kehrer II, of Paducah, Kentucky. Two stepchildren, Christopher Hugo and Lisa Roddy of Mt. Vernon and Cary (Hugo) Mattmiller of Mt. Vernon; two former step-children, Dena McCullough and Kristi-Holst-Blackman. Eleven grandchildren, Evee Paul and husband Elijah, Gabe Burkeen, Addy Burkeen, Paul Burkeen, Zack Mattmiller, Lauren Mattmiller, Christopher Kehrer, Brandon Kehrer, Lea Blackman-Spitler, Megan Blackman, and Reese Kruse; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Everett Cross and wife Wilma, Bill Cross and wife Carolyn, and Clyde Lee Cross and wife Joyce; sisters-in-law, Diane Hanke and husband Larry of Boulder, Connie Thompson and husband Roger, Cathy Mahlandt and husband Robert, and Denise Robinson and husband Gary; brothers-in-law, Danny Hugo and wife Mary and Dennis Hugo; three special friends, Barb, Carla, and Kathy; and special beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Doug Hugo.

Evelyn was a member of the Rock Church in Centralia and also attended the Ignite Church in Eureka, Missouri, where her son-in-law, Jody Burkeen, is the Pastor. She had a passion for gardening and cherished spending time with her family. Evelyn’s grandchildren lovingly called her “Boo Bah,” a nickname that brought her immense joy. She also enjoyed lunch with her friends and spending time with her brothers.

Funeral services for Evelyn Hugo will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Jody Burkeen officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Grove Cemetery in Kell, Illinois. Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
