BENTON – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Marion woman Monday on an arrest warrant for writing checks that were returned for insufficient funds.

Sheriff Kyle Bacon says on June 19, the sheriff’s office received a complaint from the American Legion Post #1961 in Orient alleging that 44-year-old Nicole D. Keen wrote numerous checks in the amount of $1,040 to the Orient American Legion. Each of the checks were returned as a result of insufficient funds. Deputies collected information and submitted the case to the Franklin County State’s Attorney’s office. As a result, an arrest warrant was soon issued for Keen for the offense of Deceptive Practice.

On Monday, Keen was located and taken into custody based on the arrest warrant. At the time of her arrest, Keen was on pretrial release from a previous arrest that happened in September of 2023.

Based on the new offense, Keen’s pretrial release was revoked, and as a result, she remains in the custody of the Franklin County Jail.
