CARBONDALE – A Carbondale man has been charged with Resisting a Peace Officer after Carbondale Police responded to the 500 block of South Illinois Avenue regarding a report of a man with a gun just after 11 a.m. Tuesday.

According to Carbondale Police, callers provided a description of the suspect and officers quickly arrived in the area. The suspect fled on foot when the officers attempted to make contact with him. Officers pursued the suspect on foot to the 600 block of South Illinois Avenue where they arrested him without further incident.

Officers identified the suspect as 26-year-old Khalil S. Pemberton of Carbondale. Officers did not find a firearm in his possession. Officers searched the area where Pemberton fled and located a bag that Pemberton discarded on the roof of a business. Officers and detectives did not locate a firearm in the bag or the area as described by witnesses. The observed victims have not come forward to assist in the investigation at this time.

Pemberton was then charged with the offense we mentioned at the beginning of this story. He was released with a pending court date.
