MAYFIELD, KY – A Vienna man and his two passengers were killed in a head-on crash Saturday night on I-69 in Graves County, KY.
According to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police received 911 calls of a vehicle going northbound in the southbound lanes of I-69 between U.S. 45 and KY 131. Graves County deputies responded to the area.
A few moments later, dispatch began receiving 911 calls about a two-vehicle, head-on crash between mile marker 26 and 27 on I-69.
An investigation into the collision determined 68-year-old Shirley Ballard, of Mayfield, KY, was driving her Chevy Trax and mistakenly ramped on to the southbound lanes of I-69 from U.S. 45, traveling northbound in the southbound lanes.
In the area of I-69 between the Hopewell Road overpass and KY 131, Ballard’s vehicle collided with a Toyota Corolla, that was traveling southbound, driven by 21-year-old Colten Blankenship, of Vienna. The Graves County Coroner’s Office pronounced Blakenship dead at the scene. His two passengers, 18-year-old Alexander McLean, of Eddyville, KY, and 22-year-old Daniel Guasp, of Nortonville, KY, were taken from the scene by EMS and Lifeflight.
McLean was pronounced deceased at Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield. Guasp was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN, where he was pronounced dead.
Ballard was transported from the scene by EMS and then to a Memphis area hospital by Air Evac. Ballard was listed in critical condition at the time the sheriff’s office posted this information on their Facebook page.
