SPRINGFIELD – State Representative Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) is sponsoring legislation that will eliminate a provision that doesn’t allow a person licensed to carry a concealed handgun from carrying a firearm on any bus, train, or form of transportation that is paid for, in whole or in part, with public funds.

Windhorst filed the legislation because he believes that a prohibition on the carrying of a firearm on public transportation by a concealed carry licensee, is a violation of the licensee’s right to bear arms in self-defense and, as the representative explains, public transportation for some people is the only way they have to move around.  He also pointed out that one of the places where concealed carry residents have the most difficult time with the law is in the Chicago area.

House Bill 1429 is currently waiting to be heard in the Judiciary – Criminal Committee.
