ROYALTON – Two people were injured in a head-on crash Saturday afternoon on Illinois 149 at Elkville Blacktop in Royalton.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, 71-year-old Belinda S. Poe of De Soto was driving her 2024 Nissan Rogue west on Elkville Blacktop and crossed over the centerline striking a 1995 GMC Sierra driven by 50-year-old James. D. Holloman of Du Quoin who was going east.

Holloman and a child in his vehicle both received serious injuries and were taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. They were later transported to St. Louis area hospitals for further treatment. Poe was not injured.

Poe was issued citations for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash and Improper Lane Usage.

The sheriff’s office was assisted by Illinois State Police, Zeigler Fire Department, Royalton Fire Department, United Ambulance and AMR Ambulance.
