MT. VERNON – Mt. Vernon Police arrested a man on several charges following a report that he possessed a handgun during a domestic dispute in the 200 block of South 19th Street around 12:40 Tuesday afternoon.

Police say Roderick Burnett Jr. was taken to the Jefferson County Jail on charges of Armed Violence, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Aggravated Assault, Disorderly Conduct and Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.

Police say schools were notified about the incident and took precautions due to the proximity of the call.

During the investigation a search warrant was obtained for Burnett’s home and served by Mt. Vernon officers and detectives. A firearm, ammunition and decaying deceased dogs were located at the home.
