CARBONDALE – The City of Carbondale and Carbondale Main Street are thrilled to announce the 3rd Annual Hemp, Hops & Shrooms festival to be held on Sept. 28 at the Downtown Entertainment and Events Plaza from 3 to 10 p.m.
There will be offerings at the Hemp, Hops & Shrooms festival for the whole family!
For those looking to learn more about these elements, presentations and demos from highly knowledgeable & experienced individuals in our region will occur from 3 to 7 p.m.
Some of these presentations will include a tasty cooking with mushrooms segment from Flyway Family Farm and a fun interactive presentation on terpenes, the aromatic compounds found in plants, and how they shape the beer drinkers’ experience, from Susie Lighty of SIU’s Fermentation Science Institute.
Professors from SIU’s Cannabis Science Center, Jose Leme, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Cannabis Biology & Cultivation Systems and Karla Gage, Associate Professor of Weed Science and Plant Biology of the School of Agricultural Sciences /School of Biological Sciences at SIU will have demonstrations on site showcasing how to grow cannabis indoors and how to work with hemp fibers.
The night will end with Carbondale’s “Off the Rails” Concert from 7-10 PM, featuring jam-bluegrass band, ever so aptly named, Off the Rails, headlining the evening, and ska-reggae group, UNCHAiNED, opening.
Vendors of all kinds will be set up all day showcasing the awesome arts, businesses, and organizations from our area. If you are a vendor in the area of any kind interested in participating, you can still apply to be a by filling out this form.
A Carbondale CommUNITY tent, set up with seats and a kids corners with activities for children to engage in, will be set up all day for all to enjoy. Food trucks will be onsite, beer will be sold by Carbondale Main Street, and guests are encouraged to BYOC (bring your own chair) and can BYOB (bring you own beverage) in non-glass containers. This will be a full day of free, family friendly, FUN!
This year Hemp, Hops & Shrooms will be held the same weekend as SIU’s Hemp & Cannabis Symposium, giving guests the opportunity to have a full weekend of educational events surrounding hemp, cannabis, mushrooms and fermentation sciences.
The SIU Hemp & Cannabis Symposium takes place at the McLafferty Annex on SIU’s Campus on Friday, Sept. 27, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
