CARBONDALE – A Carbondale man wanted for a June 21 shooting in Carbondale has been charged with multiple counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Jackson County State’s Attorney Joseph Cervantez announced Friday that at 11:30 a.m. on June 21, Carbondale Police responded to the 700 block of Main Street near the intersection of Springer and West Main.

Video showed a man, later identified as 18-year-old Justin Perteet-Lovelady, in dark clothing getting out of a white vehicle and firing several shots at another vehicle going west on Main. Perteet-Lovelady left the area before police arrived. No injuries were reported in the shooting. A resident reported damage to a home.

On June 24, Cervantez requested an arrest warrant for Perteet-Lovelady on the charges we mentioned earlier.

Then on Saturday, June 29, at 1:45 a.m., officers located Perteet-Lovelady in the 600 block of East Grand Avenue. Perteet-Lovelady fled but was quickly apprehended. Perteet-Lovelady was in possession of a gun during his arrest. The State’s Attorney’s office filed a Petition to Detain Perteet-Lovelady while he awaits trial and the petition was granted by the court.

Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm is a Class 1 felony punishable by four to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The sentence, if he is convicted, would have to be served at 85 percent.
